People often ask about or compliment various aspects of the taproom. The owners put a lot of thought into every detail of the space and, along with our family and friends, we also put our time and creativity into the buildout. So we really appreciate that others notice the details. In response to these questions, this page highlights some of the more notable details.

The Bar

The concrete bar top was poured with the help of the “Barr boys”. After curing, 3 colors of stain were applied in layers prior to sealing. We love the finished product, but not sure if we would take that on again!

The base of the bar is framed with rough cut ash, donated by a family friend, naturally dried in their barn loft. Panels are rusted corrugated tin pulled from the roof a friends barn damaged by the 2019 tornado that touched down in Beavercreek.

Bar Lights

Providing the lighting for the bar area are antique beer crates with Edison bulb pendants. Scattered among the bulbs are a few antique hoods. The lighting design was a collaboration with Village Salvage in Waynesville.

Wall paintings

Prior to SOB taking over, the building was a banquet center with wall to wall carpet, painted drywall, drop ceilings, and even a dance floor. As we demoed the walls, we unveiled murals on each wall of the original building. Our research revealed that the murals were painted by local art students. Our initial plan had been to paint over them… but after spending 3 months with them, they grew on us, so we decided to freshen up the paint and keep our favorite parts.

Barn wood door and wall

These are made from reclaimed wood from barns damaged by the 2019 tornado that came through Beavercreek the week after we obtained our property. Logos representing the family farms can be found on the barn wood wall.

Wall Hangings

These are actually acoustic panels, build to dampen the high noise levels that we experienced when we first opened. They were designed and built by staff members. The whimsical designs, painted by one of the owners, started as a homage to the Creek Side bike trail and Beavercreek (beaver on a bike) and then snowballed from there.

Tables

The inside tables were all handmade by the owners.

The pub tables are walnut cut from a 100 yr old tree from the owner’s yard. We lovingly stripped the bark and painstakingly sanded and varnished them prior to installing the pipe table legs.

The short tables, are simple “white wood” from a big box store. The SOB logo was laser cut at the Green Co Library Spark Place. The size limit of the laser cutter drove the design of the table top. Boat resin was used to seal the tops and give them a durable high gloss finish.
